What We Do

A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things in any area of life, not just at school but for all of their lives.
Learning disabilities are life-long but people with learning disabilities can find great success in all aspects of life when using their strengths and abilities together with strategies for success, good quality and safe accommodation, use of new technology and provision of appropriate support.
A learning disability affects the way a person understands new information and how they communicate with others. Around 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability.

This means that they can have difficulty:
– Understanding new or complex information
– Learning new skills
– Living independently
Birmingham Rathbone supports adults with a mild to moderate learning disability to learn new skills, look after themselves and pursue their interests and life goals. We support adults with a learning disability to overcome barriers in their lives and to live, work and socialize actively as part of the local community. The level of support we provide depends on a person’s individual needs and abilities. We complete an assessment with each person to ensure we put in the correct level of support or care to enable them to achieve their full potential.
To meet these needs we have a team of highly trained and experienced support and care staff and a range of high quality accommodation available in many locations across the City.
